Kathleen booked us to collect and service her Brother PR655 in Prestatyn. She’d bought the machine secondhand and wanted to have it fully serviced. There were also a few other issues. They included a wiper error and the thread was snapping on a few of the needles.
Catch the weather, and North Wales has a beautiful coastline. En route, the dips and rises and twists and turns revealed glimpses of long sandy beaches and a glimmering sea.
Brother PR655 Collection
Arriving at Kathleens, on time as always, we were met by a nice lady with an obvious obsession for sewing and embroidery. Plans were afoot to create a larger sewing room in one of the spare bedrooms. The dream of many.
We chatted and noted down the issues Kathleen mentioned, and then, between us, we carefully carried the embroidery machine out to our van. As usual, Steve packed the machine in safe with sheets of polystyrene. We’re always very careful with our customers’ machines.
Childhood Memories
When we were little boys, Mum and Dad used to take us to a static caravan at Talacre beach. This was during the 1960’s, and our campsite was literally just a field with a few other caravans scattered about the place. Of course, it didn’t matter to us how basic it was – it was always an adventure. I used to roll out of my sleeping bag and then spend the entire day playing on the long beach or investigating the patchwork of many farm fields.
So, as we were so close to our old childhood haunts, we turned the van towards Talacre, and relived some fond childhood memories.
PR655 Workshop Repairs and Service
Back in the workshop, Steve goes through our usual maintenance schedule on the PR655. First, he strips away all the covers, next he blows away all the collected thread, lint and fluff using the workshop compressor. After this, Steve now has a clear view of all the internal mechanisms.

Once everything has been checked, reset and checked again, Steve then lubricates the PR655 with the correct range of lubricants. Once he is satisfied and has gone through our Brother PR workshop checklist, Steve builds the machine back up, again.
Next, he goes through a series of sew tests which check the tension and stitch quality. Only when the machine is embroidering well does Steve begin to clean and polish the covers.
