Sound Embroidery Business Advice — Interview with Angie from StitchesRuS
If you’re looking for genuine embroidery business tips from someone who’s been there, done that, and stitched the T-shirt — this interview is for you.
In our latest video, Alan from Bamber Sewing Machines chats with Angela from StitchesRuS, a well-established embroidery business in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Angie speaks with refreshing honesty about the good, the bad, and the funny sides of running an embroidery business — and she shares real insights that will help anyone starting out in the trade.
Starting an Embroidery Business in Greater Manchester
Angie launched StitchesRuS over fourteen years ago after spotting a gap in the market for quality embroidered workwear. From small beginnings, she’s built a thriving embroidery and print business, working alongside her husband, Nigel.
Today, most of their work revolves around embroidered workwear for tradespeople — including builders, joiners, plasterers, and construction workers — as well as supplying gyms and small businesses across Manchester and beyond.
Finding the right commercial premises took time, and Angie admits that balancing costs, space, and accessibility wasn’t easy. But perseverance and attention to detail have paid off — and the result is a busy, successful embroidery workshop that continues to grow year after year.
Running an Embroidery Business — The Honest Truth
Angie is the first to say that running a business isn’t always easy. She wears many hats — managing social media, accounts, invoices, and orders — all while keeping customers happy and machines running smoothly.
Despite the challenges, Angie says the best part of her job is seeing a customer come back with a smile. “There’s nothing better than when someone loves what I’ve made and comes back for more.”
Her most popular offer is the Workwear Package:
- Two T-shirts
- Two polo shirts
- One sweatshirt
- One hoodie
- One soft shell jacket
It’s a perfect example of value, consistency, and professional branding — all produced to Angie’s exacting embroidery standards.
Community, Charity, and the Royal Signals
Angie and Nigel are both passionate about supporting the Royal Signals charity. Nigel served with the Royal Signals, and together they produce embroidered garments for various charity and veterans’ events.
Every year, they join the Ring of Red ride around the M60 motorway, held on Remembrance Sunday — a moving show of support for the Armed Forces community.
It’s clear their business isn’t just about making garments — it’s about connection, community, and care.
Choosing the Right Embroidery Machine
When it comes to equipment, Angie’s top pick is the Brother PR1055X 10-needle embroidery machine. She prefers it over the six-needle models because many of her logo designs use more than six colours.
She also loves the built-in camera feature, which allows for precise design placement — particularly useful when she’s working on upholstery or complex garments.
If you’re thinking of upgrading your embroidery setup, Angie’s experience is a perfect example of how the right machine can make a real difference to your workflow and results.
A Longstanding Friendship with Bamber Sewing Machines
Angie has been a loyal Bamber Sewing Machines customer for many years. She often praises our service, repair work, and honest advice — and we’re proud to support her in return.
As she puts it:
“Steve and Alan are just normal guys. They never push anything on people. Visiting Bamber’s is like visiting a best friend’s house.”
That’s exactly what we love to hear — and it’s a sentiment that sums up Angie and Nigel perfectly too. They’re hardworking, generous, and full of heart — the kind of people you’re proud to call friends.
