Brother PR670e Service and Repair in Doncaster

Today’s job is to return a Brother PR670e service and repair to Doncaster. In fact, Stevie and I had collected two PR670e’s from Karen, a regular customer, the previous Wednesday. We collect every Wednesday, from all corners of the UK Mainland, and return the following Wednesday. Each Brother PR model brought back to our workshop for attention goes through a thorough 44 Point Check List.

Coffee Teacakes & Briefing

I arrived at Stevies at 6am for our regular ritual – coffee, teacakes and briefing for the journey ahead. Sometimes we travel to Plymouth, other times it’s Edinburgh, but wherever we go, there’s always a briefing. We measure the journey and split it into driver sections. So we both stay fresh and safe through the day.
Today’s journey, to return a Brother PR670e service and repair to Doncaster, for example, was a four-section journey. I drive halfway there, and Steve drives the second half. Same on the way back. Four sections. Got it?

Stevies Culinary Skills…

Stevie’s culinary skills have come on leaps and bounds over the years. To such an extent that he no longer serves baked-black teacakes, only nicely toasted to a golden finish and embellished by a dollop spread of Lurpack.

So teacakes scoffed, coffee drunk, and briefing concluded, we set off once more for the untamed wilds of Doncaster.

Pennine Ascent

So soon enough, we were motoring up the hill of the M62 and climbing the Pennines. Large lorries in every shape and colour slipped by, pulled out and cut across our beam. A regular morning motorway motor.
After a while, we turned southbound onto the A1 and pulled into a Service Station for a comfort break. We stretched our legs and had a coffee from the flask Steve always brings a flask of coffee from home. Better than the acrid stuff they sell at these service stations, I note they even offer a hundred flavours of syrup now, to mask the bitter taste.

Steve and I chat about the work we carried out on the two PR670e’s, back in our workshop. Karen runs a busy embroidery business, but maintains her machines well, and she books them in for service with us every 12 – 18 months. As well as carrying out a full service on each machine, we replaced the fixed knife and holding plate clip on both PR670e machines – common wear items that can affect cutting accuracy and fabric stability during stitching.

Eric and Hattie

We move on, and slowly time slows down and the fields become villages and hamlets and we pass quirky buildings on our way. Stone built cottages with windows set two feet deep. A gorgeous looking pub ablaze with deep rainbows of flowers and hanging baskets and a trough for horses to drink from.
Somewhere, surely, Eric is calling to Hattie.
‘I’m just going for a paper, Hat’.
‘Ok Eric, and will you pick up a loaf and some milk’
Eric pulls on his jacket and a hat and sets forth.

We carry on along quiet roads and over a small bridge, and the river below slowly winds its way to somewhere else.
I catch sight of a chap in jacket and cap with a paper tucked into his pocket. He carries a loaf and a small carton of milk and looks vaguely familiar. He nods and I send one back.

Arrival

We arrive at Karens. She’s out, but a friend is manning the post. A nice lady, lovely smile, she greets us warmly. Most people do. Stevie and I carefully unload the two PR670e’s. We carefully carry them to their spot and lay them down.
The lady smiles and declares herself happy and happy on Karens behalf.
Steve and I wave our goodbyes and then set off back to Manchester, and home. A few miles on, we pull into a layby and break out the sandwiches and finish the last coffee from the flask. Another pair of Brother PR670e machines serviced, returned, and set for the road ahead – just like us.
